My POI Journey

About Us

Hi, my name is Jamila and I was diagnosed at age 33 with Primary or premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) just as my husband and I decided to try to conceive. POI is a rare condition where your ovaries stop working before 40. This causes irregular periods and leads to infertility. This means I have a 5-10% chance of conceiving naturally along with a host of other symptoms. POI is rare and impacts about 1% of women (or people assigned female at birth). The cause of my POI? Unclear at the moment and just like many other women, I may never find out.

While I normally don’t post this level of personal info on the internet, I noticed during my research on the topic that not many people do. I plan to use to website to chronicle my experience with POI as well as creating a safe space for others going through this to connect and support one another. I don’t know where this journey will go, but hopefully sharing my experience will help the rest of that 1% not feel so alone.
